Into The World of 'Gulzar' an impression to the legend

Whenever I meet someone, I ask them whether they like Hindi movies and music or not. And if you like Hindi and Indian movies and music, then this world is created by Gulzar and we are just living in it.
Sampooran Singh Kalra also known as Gulzar Sahab respected by many and loved by every single Indian Soul. And now that I am sitting at my desk writing these words, I feel anxious and trembling like hell. Whether I will do justice to that legend who crafted Indian cinema, music, and literature in many ways by writing this tribute article.
As long as I can remember there has been a part of Gulzar in my life. Whether it was that soul-touching song ‘Is mod se jate hain’ from the movie ‘Aandhi’ that my mother adored or that very particular movie called ‘Koshish’ that my father forced me to watch and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. There was Gulzar everywhere.
But then one might think that he was just an old timer for old people and old movies. But one can really understand Gulzar only when one dives deep into his filmography and writings. Movies like 'Ijaazat' are still being romanticized by many and 'Maachis' is considered to be one of the path-breaking movies of Indian cinema for the story is centered around a very sensitive and influential topic.
Other than that, where is Gulzar? We all remember that legendary song where Aish fired the stage with Abhishek and Big B? yes, I am talking about 'Kajra Re' song. And it was also written by Gulzar Sahab and was inspired by a folk song from the Braj region. On the other hand, when we see Vishal Bhardwaj’s work, there is a name which is very common and that is Gulzar. Yes, the connection between these two goes way back when Vishal Bhardwaj debuted in the last directorial of Gulzar Sahab ‘Maachis’ alongside Chandrachur and K. K (in Hindi) for acting and music respectively. And after that, we feel the lines, we feel the touch of Gulzar in movies like 'Maqbool', 'Omkara', 'Haider', '7 Khoon Maaf', and many more.

But then one might ask, other than a great writer and director what is Gulzar? And when someone asks me that, I'd like to say that Gulzar is that very essence we all carry within ourselves, when we fall in love, when we see something wrong and our soul tries to go rebel, when there is a blue sky and we want to fly. There has been Gulzar in it, there will always be Gulzar in it. In every beautiful thing, there will be him.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975) Movie Review and Why It's an Important Film.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)  Pier Paolo Pasolini is the man who made one of the most beautifully disturbing films of all time. Now there are so many people who would easily skip this film considering its premises and theme and visuals but that's what makes this film a remarkable piece of art. Now as influential as Pasolini is, his last film Salò made some noises, made some things move, and became one of the most controversial films ever made.   Based on the book The 120 Days of Sodom by Marquis de Sade And loosely inspired by the real events of the Republic of Salò in Northern Italy towards the time of the end of the Second World War.   In the film, we see about the end of World War 2 a bunch of extremely wealthy and powerful fascist men with some retired prostitutes and soldiers capture 18 boys and girls on a ratio of 1:1. They take those underaged boys to a private palace, where they torture them, physical, mentally and sexually. The rul...

Om-Dar-B-Dar 1988 Film Review

Om-Dar-B-Dar 1988 Film Review A film had to be as brilliant as Om Dar-B-Dar to bring me back from the melancholy and abyss to reviewing films again. And oh boy, what work it did.  One has to think beyond imagination to understand or even feel this film. One of the most brilliant films of Indian cinema is Om Dar-B-Dar directed by Kamal Swaroop whom I'd love to explore more shortly. When I came to know about this film, I had no idea that the Post-modern Indian cinema would have something like this in its sleeves. A film in surreal non-linear way like 'Barton Fink'  with Social and Political satire like 'Captain Fantastic' with its straight-cut dialogues, breaking the social norms in the most enjoyable way possible is a delight to watch.  I just feel like this film has too much to observe and too little recognition. As melodious as the name sounds, Om Dar-B-Dar is a surrealist masterpiece with a full-blown social & political satire. This film follows th...

Shazam! Fury of the Gods 2023 Movie Review, Regrets & Suggestions

Shazam! Fury of the Gods Life is very beautiful yet complicated. We all do some deeds, sometimes we are very much satisfied with what we do and sometimes there are regrets what's left. And it is very sad to live with regrets.    After watching Shazam! Fury of the Gods, I really, really regret not seeing this film in theatres. A genuinely enjoyable Superhero film. Now I am not saying that it was perfect and the greatest creation of mankind, it's not. There are some flaws and some setbacks but it was a good film, and by seeing the box office numbers it did not deserve to be a flop.    Shazam! Fury of the Gods has everything that a Harry Potter film has and more. The story is very different and unique, to me pretty risky too considering the villains don't exist in the comics. There are dragons and minotaurs and cyclopses and unicorns too.    In my opinion, the predecessor to this film had a better story arc, very grounded and comforting. This story...
