What is 'Babylon'? Babylon 2022 Film Review, starring Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo & Toby Maguire

Babylon 2022

Nowadays there are only several films that hook me up to the end. And Babylon is one of them.
Now I don't know why Babylon didn't perform at the so-called box office so much and became a flop. But in my opinion, it is a love letter to the cinema, a dedicated appreciation, a celebration.
Based on primarily four characters who are in show business at different levels, Babylon is one of those films that will stand out in the test of time and eventually, hopefully, will become a cult classic.
With its incredible and enormous cast, Babylon sheds light on the bizarre lives of stars and wannabe stars in the town of Bel-Air. And their transformation through the transition from the silent era to the sound era.
Now that we are talking about casting. Let's talk about the incredibly talented cast with exceptional performances. Brad Pitt as Jack Conrad, loosely based on John Wilbert, a silent film superstar trying to cope with the transition of technology. Margot Robbie as Nellie Laroy, based on Clara Bow, was once a darling to the industry and audience and later faded away. Diego Calva as Manny Torres, loosely based on René Cardona, a man coming from nothing, in love with films and hoping to do wonders. Last but not least the character of Sidney Palmer played by Jovan Adepo, is based on infamous musician Curtis Mosby. A fellow who loves music with his heart and soul. And above everyone on the list is the character of Toby Maguire. A ruthless, disgusting, disturbing club owner, a delight to watch, and a surprise to experience.
Now, was it worth a watch?
Yes, it was worth a watch and worth an impact too. There are so many things I liked in this film. And I'd like to talk about some of them.
Firstly, the dialogues. This film, hands down has the most incredibly in-depth dialogues, compared to some films in recent times. Thanks to the director Damien Charzelle. We got to experience such subtle yet impactful writing, both in dialogues and as well as in the story in general.
Then there is the music. One of the most significant parts of this film was it's music. After doing films like 'Whiplash' & 'La la Land', Justin Hurwitz is not one to be questioned. It was truly remarkable how he caught the sophisticated and witty class of early 1900s Bel-Air culture. The very Jazzy vibe is like the essence of this film and should be cherished.
And now my darling Margot Robbie. I cannot believe that a couple of days ago I watched 'Barbie' and right after that 'Babylon'. The character transition she went through was truly, utterly, inexplicably remarkable. She shows how a gem of an actress, and artist she truly is. What more can I say about her except that she made the character alive.
Now, I love dark comedy films in general. But what I liked specifically about this film is that even after being fiction, this film feels real. The characters, the incidents, the unbelievable set pieces, the story, all look so familiar, so real and I believe that's what makes this film special.

Finally, I'd like to give this film a 4.5/5 and my heart and soul.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975) Movie Review and Why It's an Important Film.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)  Pier Paolo Pasolini is the man who made one of the most beautifully disturbing films of all time. Now there are so many people who would easily skip this film considering its premises and theme and visuals but that's what makes this film a remarkable piece of art. Now as influential as Pasolini is, his last film Salò made some noises, made some things move, and became one of the most controversial films ever made.   Based on the book The 120 Days of Sodom by Marquis de Sade And loosely inspired by the real events of the Republic of Salò in Northern Italy towards the time of the end of the Second World War.   In the film, we see about the end of World War 2 a bunch of extremely wealthy and powerful fascist men with some retired prostitutes and soldiers capture 18 boys and girls on a ratio of 1:1. They take those underaged boys to a private palace, where they torture them, physical, mentally and sexually. The rul...

Haddi 2023 Movie Review and Disappointments

An educated transgender woman goes on a killing spree in the fullest carnage mode after a politician kills her whole family brutally. That's what I thought I'd be witnessing in the film Haddi.   Sadly that wasn't the case. As much as I liked the trailer, the film was a total disappointment for me. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a brutal bloodthirsty transgender woman seeking her revenge was good enough to hook me in.  But the making made a total letdown. The non-linear storyline was confusing and incomplete. Lead's performances were good enough but some sides were huge misfits. Although I liked the chemistry between Nawaz and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, but felt like they could have been better. Anurag Kashyap as a cold and goofy politician was convincing enough.  And after everything what really disappointed me that the fact that the greatness this film could have achieved with a little bit more mature making. They try to hide the necessary violent shots...

Mrs. Undercover (2023) Movie Review and Disappointments

Mrs. Undercover I cannot imagine Radhika Apte doing a movie like this in 2023, especially after doing movie like Monica, O My Darling. As much as I love Radhika Apte with all my heart and soul, I just feel sad seeing her this way.   This movie is just dumb, simply dumb. One only could imagine what a good comedy or even a dark comedy this film could have been but then, giving a speech about women's empowerment every two minutes didn't work for me.   There are ways to tell a story, you can show through visuals or you can spoon-feed your audience. And this film spoon-feeds its audience irritatingly.   The story, the characters, the protagonist, the antagonist, and even the characters of special agents feel so dumb and immature at times that I thought I'd have done better work. I mean come on Sumeet Vyas as a psychopath misogynistic serial killer is such a fascinating concept and Radhika Apte playing an Ex Undercover agent and now a full-time housew...
